Overview
This is one of the estate’s top level vineyard selections. (the others include the Cannubi, the Estate Vineyard and the Riservas) This vineyard is the Sarmassa of which they hold just 7 acres of south and southeast exposed vineyards on these highly rated soils. Again this is a full bodied and elegant Barolo with long ageing potential. Just 600 cases are made. The Sarmassa vineyard in the La Morra sub zone produces Barolos that are highly perfumed and long lived. This is a treasure in any cellar.

Reviews
Wine Advocate August 2005 - Daniel Thomases
I have always been impressed by the better wines of the cru, and this 2000 Barolo Sarmassa is certainly in that category. Tannic but velvety, this is a Barolo which will still be drinking well in 2020.
Wine Spectator -June 2008 - James Suckling - 90 points
Strawberry and blackberry aromas follow through to a full body, with light raisin, raspberry and plum character. Has full yet polished tannins and a long, caressing finish. Best after 2012. 400 cases made.
