Overview
Podere 414 is an estate that straddles a river in the western part of Tuscany towards the sea and near the town of Scansano. The soil is very stingy here and it is covered with large stones. The vines tunnel deep in search for nutrients and water. We can say that this is a classic Morellino and it speaks well of it provenance or terroir. Simone Castelli, the son of a very famous Tuscan oenologist from the 1970's and early 1980's, is the proprietor. Morellino is another synonym for the grape varietal Sangiovese and the DOC calls for at 85% Sangiovese in the DOC formula. Castelli adds the classic content of Ciliegiolo and Alicante (Grenache) to complete his wine.
