Franz Haas

Trentino-Alto Adige

The Haas family has been producing estate wines since 1880, the year in which the present day winery was established. A family run estate, it was handed down through the generations to the first-born son Franz Haas. Through the years and the constant commitment of its owners and employees, this wine making estate has evolved into today’s innovative winery. We vinify grapes from 50 hectares of vineyards of which 28 hectares are estate grown or are from leased vineyards and the balance comes from vine growers with plots in particularly prized micro-areas.The vineyards are all located in the municipalities of Mantagna and Egna, on the slopes of the Cislon Mountain. The grapes grow at elevations that range from 240 – 800 meters above sea level, with a great variety of microclimates and soil composition. The years form 1982 – 1986 saw radical changes in the vineyards: that was the time we began creating new high density vineyards with 6,000 – 12,500 vines per hectare, selecting low yielding vines. Grape varieties that were untraditional in our areas were planted as we sought to find the vine stocks that would yield the best quality wine. The first harvests from these vineyards encouraged us to continue along this course, as the results in terms of quality and longevity of the wines were much more successful than we had expected.
