Cantina di Montalcino
Toscana
The Cantina di Montalcino thrives on 108 hectares of prime Sangiovese grosso vineyards. The winemaking philosophy at the Cantina is grounded in a great respect for the natural environment. This is evidenced by recent choices regarding the winery and its surrounding lands, such as the formation of ponds and hedges in the vineyards to distract animals from the grapes; the use of wood posts and other natural materials in the vineyard; and the organic approach to treatment of the vines. Treatments occur only when dangerous climactic conditions threaten the grapes with contagious diseases. Fertilization which is done with organic material, serves to replenish the land with nutrients naturally lost each year and is not intended to increase production in the vineyard. Brunello is an interesting wine producing zone. There are four areas around the hilltown and all have their own particular characteristics of terroir and climate that naturally produce wines of different character. The Cantina grows grapes in all four of these areas and as a result produces an excellent version of Brunello that in each vintage is a beautiful, fragrant and elegant wine.
